Crispin established Odey Asset Management in 1991 and today heads Investment Management. Before founding Odey, Crispin managed the Baring European Growth Trust and Continental European pension funds at Barings Asset Management and Framlington Fund Managers. Crispin graduated from Christ Church, Oxford in 1980 where he read History & Economics.
News and current affairs presenter
Alastair Stewart presents a range of news and current affairs programmes on the ITV network including The ITV Evening News and The ITV Lunchtime News. In April 2010, he moderated the first ever live TV debate between the Party Leaders, ahead of the General Election. His career started in 1976 with ITV's Southern Television, in Southampton, before joining ITN as an industrial Correspondent in 1980. He is one of the very few people who has, at one time or another, presented all of ITN’s main news programmes, including News at Ten, ITN’s News at 5.40 and the Channel Four News. He returned to ITV News as an anchor on the ITV News Channel for the 2003 Iraq War, the channel’s local government elections coverage and a special programme on the European single currency. He went on to present his own news and interview strand ‘Live with Alastair’ for which he won the Royal Television Society's Presenter of the Year Award in 2005. Alastair studied economics, politics and sociology at Bristol University and was Deputy President of the National Union of Students, 1974-76. In 2006, he was awarded the OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for his work in broadcasting and for charity. In 2008, he was made an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) by the University of Bristol. In 2010, he was made an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) by the University of Plymouth.
Joseph Cohen is a Founding Partner of Trilantic Capital Partners and member of the Executive Committee. Prior to joining Trilantic, Joseph spent 20 years at Lehman Brothers, 13 of which were spent at Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking where he was the European Co-Head. He was also a member of the Lehman Brothers’ Investment Management Division's European Operating Committee. Prior to that, he was a member of Lehman Brothers Corporate Finance team based in Paris, New York and London. Joseph is currently a Director of Marex Spectron Group Ltd and holds a degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
Ed Gander is co-Head of Weil’s Global Private Funds Group. He has more than 20 years of fundraising experience across private equity, infrastructure, real estate, credit funds and fund of funds. Ed is a market-leader in the newly developing, highly complex market for GP-led secondary restructuring transactions and recognised as a leading private funds lawyer by Chambers, Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal. He also featured in Financial News’ Rising Stars ‘Hall of Fame’ 2016 list. Prior to establishing Weil’s London Private Funds Group in 2011, Ed was Head of Clifford Chance's Global Private Funds Group. Uniquely among legal funds practitioners, Ed founded his own private equity business, ViaNova Capital, in 2003.
Tony joined InfraRed in 2006 and is one of InfraRed’s Managing Partners. Tony is responsible for the teams that advise the three yield-focused infrastructure investment vehicles (being HICL Infrastructure Company Limited, The Renewables Infrastructure Group Limited, and InfraRed’s unlisted Yield Fund). He is also responsible for Infrastructure Asset Management. He has over 20 years’ infrastructure experience and has been involved in projects in the UK, Europe and Australia. Tony has worked on a broad range of transactions including development projects, refinancings, the purchase of over 50 infrastructure investments and several investment realisations. Tony trained initially as a structural engineer, having graduated with an MA in Engineering from Cambridge University. He is also a qualified accountant.
Head of Research & Manager Selection
Tom is currently Head of Research & Manager Selection and a member of the senior management team, having joined Fidante Partners in January 2012. The Research & Manager Selection team has responsibility for managing the origination and development of new manager relationships across all distribution channels and structures, as well as providing research services to existing manager relationships and distributing sell-side research on the listed alternative investment companies sector. Tom joined from JPMorgan Cazenove, where he was a senior research analyst and whose research was repeatedly ranked number one in the Extel surveys. He previously worked as a government economist at the Food Standards Agency and the Department of Trade and Industry. Tom studied economics and management at Merton College, Oxford, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
Grant is the Managing Director of Investec Asset Management Guernsey Limited, a management company based in the Channel Islands with responsibility for a wide range of both open and closed ended funds mainly domiciled in Guernsey. Grant is also head of fund governance of all of the Investec Asset Management fund structures in multiple jurisdictions including UK, Luxembourg, Guernsey, and Mauritius. Grant is the Chairman of Investec Asset Management’s Global Valuation Committee and also chairs the Global Distribution Committee, responsible for the management of all distributors. Grant is a director on a number of the Investec Asset Management funds.
Simon is a Guernsey resident independent director with substantive investment management expertise from more than 15 years in buy-side private equity and portfolio company operation roles. Since 2015, he has established a portfolio of directorships including HICL and Permira, and other fiduciary and trading companies. Working initially with Candover Investments and then Terra Firma Capital Partners from 2008, Simon completed numerous buy-outs (Wood Mackenzie, UPC Norway, Innovia) and held Board-level operational roles alongside portfolio company executives, including the restructuring of EMI, Odeon and Four Seasons Healthcare. Simon studied manufacturing engineering at the University of Cambridge, holds the Investment Management Certificate and memberships of the Institute of Directors, the Guernsey Investment Fund Association and the NED Forum.
Tony started his professional career as a HM Inspector of Taxes, before moving into private practice with KPMG in Edinburgh. Since then, Tony has advised clients in financial services, energy and construction on UK and international tax. Tony moved to Guernsey in 2003, focusing on the financial services sector, with a particular interest in funds. Tony has been advising multinational businesses and investment funds on UK, Guernsey and international tax issues for more than 20 years. His current client base includes several leading private equity houses, property funds and other alternative investment structures. He is Treasurer and member of the Guernsey Investment Fund Association Executive Committee. He is also part of the States of Guernsey Expert Group on the Common Reporting Standard.
Investment Funds Partner
Thomas is an investment funds partner in the London office of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP. Thomas was previously Managing Director and in-house Counsel in Macquarie’s Infrastructure and Real Assets Division, where he spent 11 years with responsibility for all legal aspects of their funds formation and funds management activities within Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including the launch of flagship European infrastructure funds with aggregate commitments in excess of €14 billion. Since 2012, Thomas has been a member of the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association's Legal and Accounting Committee whose mandate includes maintaining dialogue with relevant professional bodies, shaping policy, communicating with BVCA members on relevant legal and technical matters and generally raising the profile of private equity with government, regulators and other key industry bodies.
Co-founder & Managing Director
Max is co-founder and managing director of Clarus Risk, based in Guernsey. He previously worked for JPMorgan Securities Inc in New York within Proprietary Equities and was responsible for managing a global equities portfolio. Prior to this he had worked at Ziff Brothers Investments in New York and London as Senior Associate within the Quantitative Strategy Group. Max has a BSc (Hons) Economics from the University of London and has held the CFA designation since 2001. Since 2009 he has served as Chair of the CFA UK Performance and Risk Measurement Special Interest Group.
Abhijay is a Partner in the Deals Tax team in London. He has more than 15 years of tax experience including 11 years in mergers and acquisitions. Wide experience of both diligence and structuring projects, with particular experience in large multinational acquisitions and restructurings. Abhijay currently works across a broad base of private equity clients. His main clients are Permira, TowerBrook and Exin. Abhijay is a certified chartered accountant and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
James began his career in information technology at International Computers Limited (ICL) and then Tandem Computers. Following Tandem Computers, he managed and held shares in several businesses, taking the role of investor and non-executive director. Thereafter he joined the IT company Oracle Corporation, ultimately managing several business units across the UK and successfully implementing a new rental licensing model across Europe. Following positions of chairman and CEO in IT-based businesses, James co-founded Crosslane with business partner Michael Sharples in 2006. Since then James has dedicated significant time to the UK and European student accommodation market, developing Crosslane’s property development, asset management, property advisory, lettings and operational management services gaining over 9 years’ experience within the purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) sector.
