Russell heads up the trusts and private wealth department in Carey Olsen’s Guernsey office advising on both contentious and non-contentious trust matters. He specialises in the establishment of complex trust structures for businesses and private individuals. He regularly advises and lectures on compliance issues.
Russell is a member of ACTAPS and chair of the technical sub-committee of the Guernsey branch of STEP. He was also part of the working party that led to the reform of the Guernsey trust law in 2007 and has been closely involved with the introduction of Guernsey’s foundations legislation.
He has been named as one of the world’s top 25 pre-eminent trusts and estates legal practitioners as part of the ‘Best of the Best’ Expert Guide each year since 2011.
Russell was elected into the Academy of International Estate and Trust Lawyers in 2014.
Russell was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales before returning to Guernsey where he qualified as an advocate in 1997. He was made partner in 2001. Russell became a notary public in 2006 and is also a member of Carey Olsen LLP which is the firm’s London office.
A funds specialist, Leon is a Group Partner in Collas Crill’s Singapore office. He has significant offshore and onshore experience advising
private equity and hedge fund managers, banks and corporations
on fund establishment, investment structuring and operational issues.
Leon also has a broad background in corporate finance and commercial matters, having advised on M&A, listings and business contracts in various industries.
Having qualified as a lawyer in 1999 in Australia, prior to joining
Collas Crill, Leon worked at SJ Berwin and Kirkland & Ellis in London
and as a director and counsel for a large fund management company. The broad remit of this role encompassed fund structuring, on and offshore regulatory/compliance matters and group corporate advice.
