International Business Development Director
James has recently joined Guernsey Finance as International Business Development Director. He is responsible for implementing the business development strategy, which is to promote the island as a global finance specialist and connect Guernsey’s industry in its chosen target markets. James has more than 20 years' experience in the fiduciary sector, where he worked for international banks and independent trust companies based in the Channel Islands, Switzerland and the UAE
Chris Van Vliet
Chris moved to Guernsey from Johannesburg in 1997 with his family. He completed his schooling at Elizabeth College before studying in the UK where he obtained a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance at Bournemouth University. After graduation he joined PwC where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW. At PwC he was involved with the audit of a number of high profile and listed funds. In 2010 he left PWC, and after a period of travelling through Africa, he joined Cannon Asset Management. In Cannon Chris has experienced all aspects of the business and has continued to study becoming a Trust and Estate Practitioner. Chris currently holds the position of Senior Executive of the Trust, Company and Fund Administration departments, he also sits on the board of several Funds and Licenced Entities.
Natasha Kapp is a partner in Carey Olsen's trusts and private wealth group in Guernsey. Prior to joining Carey Olsen in 2009 Natasha was a partner at Jan S De Villiers (since incorporated with Werksmans) in Cape Town, South Africa. Natasha is qualified as an attorney, notary and conveyancer of the High Court of South and a solicitor of England and Wales (non-practising) and is an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey.
Natasha deals with all aspects of contentious and non-contentious trust matters. She advises professional trustees, family offices and ultra high net worth families and individuals on the establishment, administration and restructuring of complex trusts and foundations and underlying structures. She has acted on the establishment of and continues to advise some of the largest family offices and philanthropies established on the Island.
Natasha has recently appeared before the Royal Court of Guernsey in applications regarding the interpretation of trust powers, the variation of trusts, the doctrine of mistake, the application of the Rule In Hastings Bass under Guernsey law, Beddoe applications, rectification of trusts and a significant breach of trust case. Natasha is a member of the Association of Contentious Trusts and Probate Specialists.
Natasha is a regular contributor to law and industry journals and is the author of the Guernsey chapters in Trusts in Prime Jurisdictions and Private Foundations- A World Review. Natasha has been listed on the Citywealth Leaders in Private Wealth List since 2014.
B.Comm, LLB University of Stellenbosch, LLM Maritime Law Southampton University, Honours in SA Tax University of Cape Town, and an admitted attorney in South Africa (Western Cape).
Assistant Director of Maitland Fiduciary Services based in Guernsey and has experience in advising on SA cross-boarder transactions, offshore structures, international automatic exchange of information developments under the OECD Common Reporting Standards and the SARS voluntary disclosure procedure.
