Image rights

In 2012 Guernsey introduced the world’s first image rights legislation and image rights register. This has opened up a new chapter in asset protection and exploitation management. We live in a world where image is everything and the cult of celebrity is pervasive. Overnight, sportspeople and entertainers can be converted into globally recognised brands which can be easily damaged and run the risk of being devalued. This change in culture raises questions about how these brands can be protected through intellectual property (IP) rights.
