In January 2017, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC), working in collaboration with the island's insurance industry, produced a set of rules to define a new class of insurer – the Special Purpose Insurer (SPI) – and to clarify the way in which SPIs are treated by the island’s regulator.
These versatile fully-colateralised vehicles have potential applications in private collateralised deals, listed vehicles, reinsurance sidecars and more. Here, we provide structure charts to show how.
