Current affairs expert returns to lead Guernsey anniversary event

05 September 2017

Prominent current affairs commentator Michael Chugani will moderate an anniversary event in Hong Kong next week [Thursday 14 September] to celebrate the first year of the Guernsey representative office in Admiralty.

The host of TVB's Straight Talk, the most widely-watched English language weekly TV current affairs talk show in Hong Kong, was moderator at the international finance centre’s launch event in Hong Kong last year and will return to oversee proceedings for its anniversary.

Mr Chugani will moderate a panel that will discuss how Guernsey companies could help as part of a diversification strategy and create access to new markets and services. The panellists will present real-life case studies of how Guernsey provided a solution for their business or clients and discuss the outlook for international finance.

Kate Clouston, Deputy Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance – the promotional agency for the island’s finance industry internationally, said she was delighted to involve Mr Chugani once more.

“Michael was an exciting addition to our line-up for the Hong Kong launch last year and proved to be very popular,” said Miss Clouston.

“He did an excellent job in leading the panel discussion and is widely respected in the region in his capacity as a current affairs commentator. It is fitting that he should return to our anniversary event as we mark a successful first year in Hong Kong. I’m sure his contribution will be just as effective.”

The Hong Kong office, which is run by Guernsey Finance, acts as a base from which the agency can carry out further promotional duties concentrated on the wider South East Asian market. It is also utilised by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission to provide regulatory advice to those in the region who might be considering Guernsey-specific ventures.

In addition to marking the island’s progress since the office opening, ‘Ganbei Guernsey’ will also include a keynote speech from CitiTrust Chairman Stewart Aldcroft, who has had a long career working for traditional hedge, structured and alternative funds houses across Asia on business development and client relationships.

‘Ganbei Guernsey’ precedes an event in Shanghai on 21 September which will celebrate a decade of the island’s presence in China.
